The 2018/2019 Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) DC Development Report ranks Shalom Baranes Associates (SBA) first on the list of “Most Active Architects Since 2013.” The rankings are based on the number and square footage of projects in the District completed since January 2013 and under construction / in the pipeline as of August 2018. The report also includes multiple SBA projects in its Top Projects lists:

Groundbreaking: 1300 4th Street, NE
Great Gulf and EDENS, co-developers of 1300 4th Street, NE, broke ground on the 12-story residential/mixed-use development in Ward 5's Union Market District. The 154,500 sf building will offer 134 units and 12,350 sf of ground floor retail.

880 P Street, NW Wins AIA|DC and Washingtonian Awards
880 P Street, NW, the second phase of CityMarket at O, was honored with a Merit in Architecture award from the 2018 AIA|DC Chapter Design Awards and an Award of Merit in Multifamily Housing from the 2018 Washingtonian Residential Design Awards.

SBA Listed as a Top 100 Green Design Firm
Shalom Baranes Associates (SBA) is ranked at #36 in Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 100 Green Design Firms. The annual survey ranks firms across the U.S. based on their volume of sustainable design projects. SBA’s portfolio includes more than 35 million square feet of projects that have earned or are being designed to achieve LEED certification.

City Market at O, 880 P Street NW, Featured in the 2018 Summer Issue of ArchitectureDC
The Summer 2018 issue of ArchitectureDC featuring residential designs in the District includes a feature story on the final phase of CityMarket at O, 880 P Street, NW. “The building is an example of how you can do contemporary design in historic neighborhoods, and it’s going to be OK,” says SBA’s design principal, Robert Sponseller, who was interviewed by the magazine. “People, Land & Water” by the Interior Museum Takes Viewers on a Detailed History Lesson Inside the Recently Modernized DOI
SBA's work at the U.S. Department of the Interior Headquarters in Washington, DC was recently featured in an informative video published by the department. "People, Land & Water" gives viewers a brief lesson on the history of the country and the importance of the DOI. Among the video's features are the monumental headquarters building and its historically important interior spaces. SBA provided full A/E services as Prime for the phased, 1.2 million sf modernization of this 1930's landmark. The Washington Business Journal’s list of the Largest Architecture Firms in Greater DC includes Shalom Baranes Associates (SBA) at #6. Notably, SBA is the only firm in the top 10 that is based entirely in the District.

SBA Hosts UVA School of Architecture Alumni Reception
Shalom Baranes Associates (SBA) hosted the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Architecture Spring DC Alumni Reception, bringing Dean Ila Berman, 2018 admitted students and local alumni together in our studio. Presentations by SBA Design Principal and UVA alumnus Robert Sponseller, along with alumni from other local firms, demonstrated how their current projects connect with one of the School's priorities, "Next Cities: Urbanization, Ecology, and Social Justice." AIA|DC’s “reBirth:: Washington DC 50 Years After 1968” Exhibit Showcases Langston Lofts and CityMarket at O
AIA|DC’s “reBirth:: Washington DC 50 Years After 1968” exhibit features two projects designed by Shalom Baranes Associates: Langston Lofts and CityMarket at O. Armature Works Moves Forward
Armature Works was granted permission from the D.C. Court of Appeals to move forward after being placed on hold following an appeal filed against the project last September. The mixed-use project is scheduled to enter the construction phase by the end of 2018 and deliver in 2021.
