The redevelopment of the Central Armature Works site will transform an underutilized industrial parcel into a transit-oriented mixed-use community in northeast NoMa.

SPLIT CONTENT

Two residential buildings and a hotel will be placed atop a podium that lifts the structures above the train-way bordering the site’s western edge. At ground level, retail and public open spaces will activate the street experience, while greenscaped areas at multiple elevations above will provide residents and hotel guests with outdoor amenities. A similar vertical language will articulate the relationship between the buildings, while distinct material palettes will reinforce their uniqueness. This composition creates a scale that is in sync with the transitioning neighborhood. The project will deliver a significant benefit to the neighborhood by carving a 30-foot-high public plaza out of the north residential building and linking it to a future tunnel accessing the NoMa/Gallaudet Metro station. The plaza’s height and position at the terminus of the N Street right-of-way will capture views of the trains passing by on the Amtrak railway.
