MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Surgical Pavilion
Washington, DC
The new MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH) Surgical Pavilion will set the standard for patient care, providing a new emergency department with rooftop helipad, state-of-the-art operating room (OR) suites, private patient rooms, and a new campus green space.
The project will deliver a new surgical platform with ORs and procedure rooms; new critical care pavilion with all-private patient rooms; new emergency department and exam rooms; new central sterile processing department; below grade loading/materials management space; and a three-level below-grade parking structure that will be covered by a landscaped courtyard. The exterior design features a terra cotta fin-wall system that provides visual interest and acts as a solar screen. Complementary materials include metal panels, fritted insulated glass, and clear low-E insulated glass. SBA designed the building exterior and public spaces as part of a joint venture with HKS, the project’s medical planner and interior architect.
