Mr. Milstead has more than 30 years of architectural experience with a specialized background in research, documentation, and restoration of historic architecture. He excels in the design of new architectural elements within existing sensitive contexts. Serving as historic preservation architect for SBA on a range of significant projects at a variety of scales, Mr. Milstead has coordinated the modernization, adaptation, and restoration of local and federal historic landmarks. He is deeply versed in preservation technologies and guidelines, including the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, and routinely authors reports including those for Advisory Council (Section 106) review. Mr. Milstead has served as an officer of the Washington, DC chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology, and has earned two second place prizes in the Peterson Prize/Historic American Buildings Survey competition: one as a team member and the other as an instructor. Mr. Milstead received his Master of Architecture degree with a specialty in Historic Preservation from The University of Texas at Austin and his Bachelor of Architecture degree from North Carolina State University.
